Well, it is !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I have been noting the nominations for Comment Of The Day that have been coming in over the weekend. Tomorrow morning I will be checking out the best comments since Friday at 4pm. Be sure to read the submission rules below. I am looking for suggestions for Oppo only, and front page comments. There will be both segments represented in the follow up post.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

1. No links to NSFW comments, or comments on NSFW posts

2. Tuesday through Thursday the comment has to have been made no more than 24 hours previously. On Monday we will have a super weekend edition where comments made later than 4PM Friday are welcome, cause I ain’t cutting into my beer time to do this on the weekends! Request for submissions will be at 4pm M-F. I will accept COTD noms during the day on the previous days thread. You can search for COTD on Oppo, and drop the comment as you see it on the most recent call for submission result, I will figure it out

3. No comments slamming another member of Oppo or the FP. We are better than that. You can be witty or make the perfect comment without going there. Besides, you will just look like a dick to your fellow Opponauts

4. Comments may be suggested for yourself or others.

5. Make sure your submission is in the form of a link. I will not dig around to find where a quote comes from unless it violates rules 1 or 3 above. If you do not know how to do this, go to the comment, go to the little arrow in the top right, click arrow and select “Go to permalink”. Copy this url and paste it as a reply to the request for submissions post. Comment on it if you want, that is fine.

No, and seriously: I enjoy Oppo. Folks with common interests talking about their cool pursuits. And lots of kids. It’s nice. What I am specifically referring to is this obsession with the FP. Or pages. I’m a noob here, and not as young as many who frequent this space. The Front Pages are run, so far as I can tell, well, not with much in the way of thought or consideration. And there are legions of jerk/troll commenters. No trolls on Oppo.

This obssession with the Front Pages... It’s as if people are hungering for 15 nanoseconds of fame, a flickering ethereal flame of celebrity that might cast it’s glow upon them for a mere moment...

So yes — and, thanks to your time stamp, I pin you to the Right Coast; Maine? — I am sitting here at work after everyone else has gone home, posting on Oppo because I enjoy it and you are a nice guy.

And there’s this gentlemen’s club thing about obfuscating who or what $kay is. Like maybe if I’m around long enough, I can parse it all out. Sure, I imagine lots of blokes have come and gone and what fun would any of it be if we — scratch we because I am a noob — didn’t have at least a slight club mentality.

dude I haven’t been to the front page in ages except to check out the comments. And they broke up with us anyways recently so even less reason.

Oppo is a fantastic community, and very different from the FP. We have all types, but I like to think we are much tighter knit car community than almost anywhere else. Drama happens, but being a dick is not tolerated here. Some people start here and go on to great things in the car world. Sometimes they stay in touch, sometimes not.

And you totally pegged me in Maine, AMAZING :)

It really is a nice community. I enjoy being a part of it as I said.

The chop from Jalo happened right after I joined. My brother, ttyymmnn, has been active here for years and he got me started. The people who run the front pages really do strike me as thoughtless and careless. It seems like they cull the herds from time to time with neither rhyme nor reason, leaving thoughtful people scratching their heads trying to figure out whose wee-wee they’ve stepped on. And now there’s all the union drama going on amongst the Gawker writers. Yuck.

As for the Maine reference, it’s really not so amazing. I’ve just paid attention to what you post. The one thread where you were motoring around in a derelict car somewhere, there was a rusty old Maine license plate.

He’s certainly put a lot of time and effort into Oppo.

I’ve found a bit of amusement trolling around on Jezebel. Many of the commenters are reactionary liberals, but I’ve gotten a few of them to actually shut up and listen. They are probably as young as many of the Oppos, but less well mannered. Which is not to try and label myself as not a Liberal, or as not anything else except, hopefully, rude.

I’ll be 51 this summer and even though I dont’ share the opinions of many of the Oppos, it’s fun to feel more, shall we say, seasoned .

I saw one of those once, many years ago. You could tell looking at the front end that the thing was hand made, and not all that well, actually. And the engine looked like it belonged in a WWII fighter aircraft.
